FAQ & Guest Comments

Q: What's the difference between a cottage and cabin?
A: By definition, a cottage is usually a modest, often cosy dwelling, typically in a rural or semi-rural location, often used to mean a small holiday home. A cabin is more rustic with raw exposed wood..

Q: What should we bring?
A: Bring what you'd normally take to any hotel; your clothes and toiletries. Plus what ever you want to eat and drink. We provide all the kitchenware, pots pans dishes, utensils, papergoods, soap, shampoo, dish soap, aluminum foil and wrap, storage containers, a gas grill, spare propane, firewood and life jackets. At a guest's request we've provided an extra electric griddle to "make lots of bacon".

Q: What's the weather like?
A: Spring and fall are usually mild with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Summer can get up to 90 during the day and 70s at night. Winter can get down in the teens at night and the 20s during the day. The temperature in our hollow is usually about ten degrees cooler than reported temps so you may want a jacket at night.

Q: Where is the closest store / gas station?
A: Towns are about fifteen miles. Carbondale and Marion to the north and Anna to the south. They all have fast foods, Wal-Mart, Kroger, and a big selection of specialty dining options.

Q: What kind of fish are in the lake?
A: Our private lake has been stocked with Bluegill, Bass, Channel Catfish and Grass Carp. We ask our guests to not introduce any other fish into the lake that may upset the balance. A paddleboat and jon boat with electric motor are included in the rental. There's a small sand beach and a swimming dock for those who may want to swim.

Q: How many cottages are on the property?
A: We only have the one cottage with two bedrooms and the additional one bedroom garage suite that we don't rent separately. So when you rent, you have the whole 55 acres and 5 acre lake to yourselves.
